How quick can you remember Spanish?

Here’s a post that as a student I’m not very proud of.

I’ve nearly lost my Spanish. Yep that’s right. The four years I spent learning this lovely language have nearly gone down the drain. I didn’t realize how much I had lost until I arrived here in Orlando. You have a guest walk up to you, “Habla español?” “Un poco, como puedo ayudarte?” I would say about 75% of the time I’m able to help them and tell them what they need. The other 25% gets a little awkward. At that point you have one of two options. You can either hope there is a guard at your pool that can actually communicate with this guest. Or unfortunately you have to point them to the front desk. Since there has been so many Spanish speakers at Disney, some has already started to come back. I even used the subjunctive the other day, that was a big high five to all my Spanish teachers. The one phrase that always alludes me when on stand is “walk please.” For some reason I know exactly what it is when off stand but on stand I just blank and let them run. Oops.

I try my best when it comes to communicating with non native speakers. It’s a lot of hand gestures or body language to get your point across. When I go back to school after my program, I’m going to take a couple of Spanish classe to brush up. I think it would help me in moving up in the company being truly fluent.

To my Spanish teachers that read this, thank you.

Hurricanes and Food & Wine

Wow where do I begin? I have been so busy over the past month that I haven’t gotten around to posting a blog yet. Instead of posting big blogs now every couple of days I will post a smaller blog. This will help in keeping everyone updated but also not draining me.

Hurricane update: It was not as anyone expected. We all thought this big hurricane was going to come through and do some major damage to our area. We fortunately got the better part of hurricane Matthew and didn’t get hit as hard. I wish I could say the same for other parts of the country and parts of the Caribbean. During the hurricane I did the ride out crew at work. Let me tell you, it was amazing! I thought that I would be drained from this experience and never wanted to step foot inside work again. Except it did the complete opposite to me! I loved every minute of it and now have a new love for my company and new spirit to keep going. Those 30 hours that I spent interacting with guests and solving problems I will always remember and take with me into the future.

Food and Wine: God bless this glorious festival that Disney does every year. Within the last week I think I have spent a big chunk of money there. The food is absolutely amazing. One of my roommates is a culinary student and cooks for the festival. This let me tell you is one of the best things that could happen to someone.  First he knows all the recipes so he can cook us some amazing food. Unfortunately he isn’t allowed to give me the recipe but he could make it at home and put a little spin to it. I have yet to have him make me any of this food but I’m going to try this week 🙂 Second he knows everyone at the kiosks around the World Showcase so its fun to talk with people there as well.

Well this is all for now. I will update more tonight when I am off work.

3 Weeks Away!!

A quick update for everyone. I am officially 19 days away from my departure date! I have been writing posts throughout the summer but haven’t posted them yet. I will post all of these at some point during my program I just don’t know when yet. It’s actually beginning to seem real to me. I have done all of my onboarding paperwork, started to sort and pack. Yesterday I even selected my housing complex and roommates! Stay toned everyone, I will start to post more frequently. I am shooting for twice a week and will maybe post more depending on work schedule and class schedule.

19 days and counting!! I am so pumped and can not way for this magical journey that is just around the corner!!
